Kemmundel residents complain against migrant workers residing in UPCL colony
Padubidri, June 2nd, 2012: Kemmundel residents have complained against continuous harassment and threat from migrant workers residing in the UPCL colony. The women and female students have complained that the workers are taking shower in the open near the bore-well and teasing the women passing by. They also alleged that the workers behave in an obscene manner while removing their clothes in the open and click photographs of the women through their mobile phones. If questioned, they retaliate with obscene abuses and threats in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and other languages.
The residents informed media that they have already complained to Yelluru Grama Panchayat and Padubidri Police Station. The colony is in a remote area where there are around 30-35 houses nearby. Empty alcoholic drinks bottles could be found everywhere and the residents get scared to walk along, as the migrant workers move in groups.
When the media contacted UPCL's official Sudarshan Prasad, he said he has no information about the gravity of the situation and he said severe action will be taken if such a problem is noticed. He expressed his surprise why all of a sudden this problem has surfaced, as the immigrant workers have been living in the colony for the last 4 years. Padubidri Police sub-inspector K. Mahadeva Setty informed that a fence has been erected around the area and he warned of severe actions against those who tresspass the limits.
