Nandikur, Sept. 29th:  Nandikur Jana Jagriti Samiti and Raitha Sangha staged a protest today at UPCL site and issued a dead line of October 11th to UPCL to solve environmental pollution issues caused by the power plant at Nandikur. They have warned of locking out the power plant if they fail to do so by that dead line.  More than 150 people comprising of affected people's representatives from Yelluru, Mudarangadi, Santooru, Padebettu, Padubidri, Yermal and Hejamady, along with Jana Jagriti Samiti and Raitha Sangha members, gathered outside the main gate of UPCL plant at Mudarangadi-Bellibattu at 10 a.m.   They blocked the entrance and shouted slogans against politicians.  They refused to move out and insisted on their pleas being heard. At 11.30 a.m., Udupi District Commissioner Dr. T. Reju arrived along with SP Ravikumar Y.S. and listened to the protesters.  He responded by saying that a committee of experts has been formed and has been instructed to look into the matter.  The committee will also be a holding a public meeting within a week, in which all people concerned were requested to give all the information.  On his assurance of his honest efforts to resolve the problems, the protesters withdrew their protest.  Prior to their blocking of main gate, the protesters had dumped a tempo load of corroded metal sheets belonging various affectednhouses and showed them to the DC.  Nandikur Jana Jagriti Samiti and Raitha Sangha representatives - Prakash Shetty Padebettu, Naagesh Bhat, Jayant Bhat, Raghuram Shetty, Thimmappa Kulal, Sunil Raj Shetty, Shivaprasad Shetty, Sudhakar Shetty Hejmady, Poovappa Poojary, Nitin Shetty, Harish Shetty Padebettu, Aithappa Poojary, Sumithra Acharya, Ravindra Prabhu, Prashanth Shetty Inna, Naveen Shetty, Jaya S, Shetty, Bhoja Anchan, Vishu Kumar Shetty and others were present.  Police Circle Inspector Cheluvaraju, Ramesh from Intelligence department,  Police Sub Inspectors -  K. Mahadeva Setti Padubidri,  K.R. Nayak Shirva and Girish Kaup lead the secuirty arrangements.
