Nandikur UPCL power plant starts emitting smoke
Padubidri, March 10th, 2010: Black smoke started coming out of the UPCL power plant chimney as the testing of boiler unit was being carried out. The testing and commissioning is expected to continue for a few days before starting producing power from one the two generating units.
Ingress of sea water from UPCL plant into agricultural land
Padubidri, May 18th, 2010: People from Ulloor area of a Yelluru grama Panchayat are agitated over the ingress of sea water used for cooling the UPCL power plant into the agricultural land and contaminating the drinking water from wells. Kaup Revenue Inspector Mr. Satyanand Shetty has visited the area as per Udupi Tehasildar's request on receiving complaints from the affected people. UPCL to plan two more power units?
Padubidri, July 6th:  As per local newspaper reports, Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) is planning to build two more power units of 660 mw capacity each on the land acquired earlier by Cogentrix, extending to Hejamady village. It is going to seek clearnace from ministry of forest and environment, which is going to take up the application from UPCL on 8th July, at a meeting to be held in New Delhi. Mr. Balakrishna Shetty, honorary president of Nandikoor Jana Jagruti Samiti, has expressed his concerns over environmental impact, with these additional units.  Also local people have expressed their fears on emission of additional smoke. Protest against release of waste water from UPCL power plant into agricultural land
Padubidri, August 17th, 2010: A protest led by Kaup MLA Mr. Lalaji R. Mendon and Udupi Zilla JDS President Mr. Deviprasad Shetty was held in front of Bellibettu Rama Dwara against the release of waste water mainly containing sea water and mixture of coal dust flowing into nearby fertile land and drinking water wells, due to leakage in pipe line.. An appeal was handed over to Kundapura Assistant Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu. Taluk Panchayath member Laxman Shetty, Ex Taluk Panchayath Member Navinchandra J. Waste water from UPCL plant continues to flow into fertile land despite assurance
Padubidri, Augutst 30th, 2010: Saline water containing coal dust and chemicals continues to flow into the nearby fields of Ulluru, Kolachuru, Padebettu, Nandikur and Yermal, despite the protest held on August 17th and the assurance given by Assistant Commissioner B. Karnataka Pollution Board officials inspect UPCL power plant
Padubidri, March 12th: Officials of Karnataka Pollution Control Board comprising of R. Bhaskar and Ravichandra paid an unexpected visit to UPCL power plant and surrounding areas, on receiving a complaint from Jayanth Updhya on behalf of all the affected people. They urged DGM Parashuram and AGM  Srinivas Reddy from environmental department of UPCL, to stop releasing contaminated saline water from the plant. The team also visited a number of houses in Kolalchur and Saje within Yellur gram panchayat, and collected samples of well water. It also observed damages suffered to jasmine, coconut, areca nut, and banana cultivation. They also observed damages to tin sheet roofs due to the saline water vapours falling from cooling towers.  During the visit by the team, the locals also expressed their apprehension about the damage being caused by the saline water that gets ejected from the cooling tower, to the high tension lines and Mescom lines. Assistant environment officer, Ravichandra, said that the team will send a report on its observations, along with a report on the samples collected, to the government within a week. LANCO - UPCL held screening camp for disabled persons
Screening camp for disabled persons by Lanco
Mulki, Aug. 29th, 2011: Lanco foundation, Udupi Power Corporation Ltd in association with Mulki LIONS Club, Lioness Club & LEO Club organised screening camp at LIONS Soudha at Mulki for physically challenged persons of Mulki & surrounding villages. Mulki - Moodabidri MLA Mr K Abhayachandra Jain has inaugurated the camp.  In the inaugural speech, Mr Abhayachandra Jain told that Mulki Lions Club is very actively involved in the social welfare of the people by conducting many such programs and though LANCO UPCL is a private Company, they are involved in the welfare of the society and we should appreciate the efforts of LANCO in identifying & providing the necessary appliances like tricycle, calipers etc to needy physically challenged persons at total free of cost. The Chief Guest Kedage Aravinda Rao had full of praises for Mulki Lions club and Lanco. Another Guest Mr Sudarshan Prasad, Senior Project Manager - UPCL addressed the gathering that LANCO - UPCL has set up 2 x 600 MW Thermal Power Project at Yelluru Village of Udupi District and started generating Electricity. As a part of CSR activity, UPCL has established artificial limb fitting centre at Udupi during the year 2006 itself and it is giving free tricycles, calipers, artificial limbs etc since the last 5 years to the physically challenged people.  Lanco Foundation is also has mobile health Units, which gives free medicines / treatment in rural areas to the needy people. He also has told that scholarships to the meritorious students worth of Rs. 8 lakhs have been distributed last week and that for professional courses will be distributed very soon. Around 70 beneficiaries from Mulki & surrounding 10 villages have attended the screening camp. LANCO foundation will distribute the suitable appliances to all this beneficiaries.
Ln President Mr Harish Puthran has welcomed all the guests and gathering. Mr Udaya Amin rendered vote of thanks.
