Padubidri beach to receive Blue Flag certification
Padubidri, June 2nd, 2018: Association of Coastal Tourism president Manohar K. Shetty announced that Padubidri beach is on the verge of receiving Blue Flag certification and Rs 8 crores grant has been received for the modernisation and development of the beach.  Blue Flag certification is given to the beaches meeting stringest standards and Padubidri beach will be the only beach in Karnataka and among the 13 such beaches in India to receive this certification.

He was speaking at the  inaugural function of World Environment Day held at Padubidri beach on Saturday, jointly organised by Udupi district administraion, Central department of environment, forest and climate change, Mangalore fisheries college, C Com, Department of tourism, and Association of Coastal tourism.
Mr Shetty urged the district administration to pay more attnetion to Kamini river's cleanliness.  Udupi district tourism department's deputy director Anita Bhaskar called upon people to take a pledge to reduce the usage of plastic and save beaches.  Mangalore fisheries college principal Dr Laxmipati said that the plastic should banned completely.  Otherwise it will pose danger to marine life, animals and birds. C com volunteer Ramji Varma said that people dependent on sea for their livelihood can increase their earning by keeping the beaches clean. 

Udupi district youth empowerment and sports department's director Dr. Roshan Kumar Shetty, Zilla panchayat standing committee president Shashikanth Padubidri and Padubidri grama panchayat president Damayanti V. Amin also spoke on the occasion.
C com's Modalaiyarasan, ACT's Principle secretary Gourav Shenava, Abhijit, Taluk panchayat member Neeta Gururaj, PU education department's Vijayalakshmi Nayak, Coastal Security force ASI  Bhaskar, H.C., Uday R.B., Amit, presidents of various fishermen's organisations Sukumar Shriyan, Leeladhar Salian, Shekhar Salian, Ganesh Kotian, Vishwas V Amin, Lions club president Maxim M D'Souza, JCI president Makarand, Grama panchayat members Ashok Salian, Sevanti Sadashiv, Shashikala, Sagar Vidya Mandir English medium school students, Padubidri Govt. PU college students and others were present. 
Beach cleaning programme followed by collecting plastic from the beach and the nearby houses.  A heap of fishing nets washed ashore was dragged away and disposed  off.
